Community Based Inventorying of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Matiari

Community Based Inventorying of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Matiari is a key component of ICH Inventorying in Sindh, conducted by Heritage Cell, Department of Architecture and Planning, NEDUET (HC-DAPNED) in partnership with the project consultant Ms. Meeza Ubaid.

The duration of this work included dedicated fieldwork in the Matiari region to identify and locate resource personnel and to assess the feasibility of conducting Community-Based Inventorying. To support this, reconnaissance visits were made to urban centers and outskirts within the district to devise a specialized work plan for the fieldwork. Capacity building workshops were conducted in collaboration with the project consultant for the local communities to orient them on the objectives and process of conducting the CBIs.

A total of 21 Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) elements were documented by the team, including the iconic Ajrak. The elements are listed below:
