Katho (Shawl)

Location(s): Tabho Meghwar, Mithi

Katho is a coarse warm cloth/ shawl manually weaved on Khaddi – a wooden pit-handloom used for weaving. The process of making Katho is practiced by the Meghwar community; its weaving is an integral skill/craftsmanship, passed down from generation to generation. Originally weaved from the sheep wool, katho comprises of two separate portions of a narrow width later stitched from the center to achieve the full width of the shawl.
